Currently working on »Wake«, a project for Berlin. Soil samples are collected from various construction sites in the city and planted. The history of the local site is researched.
Also, »Seeds of Change«, a project for Marseilles. Historical sites along the port where ballast was removed from sailing ships are located and samples of the archaic ballast material are planted. The seeds germinate in a greenhouse in a garden designed by Alves. This project is in collaboration with the botanist Heli Jutila.
Alves has exhibited (selected) Künstlerwerkstatt, Munich; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Edge Bienal, London and Madrid; Central Space Gallery, London; Kenkelebe House, New York and the 2nd Havana Bienal.
Alves is co-founder of the Partido Verde in São Paulo, Brazil, 1987.
