Installation
The room installation relates to a personal experience
of the artist:
On 11 June 2002 on the way to Canada, where she had been invited by the University
of Victoria, she had to wait for one night in Los Angeles for the connecting
flight to Vancouver. She was arrested by the United States’ immigration
authorities because she had no visa for this brief stopover. After a
four hour interrogation, she was supposed to be put in a cell. Only
after lengthy negotiations was she allowed to stay overnight in the
hotel room she had booked – though only in close custody. The
officer found it insufficient to wait outside the door, and stayed
in the artist’s room the entire night.
