The island is located northeast of Singapore on the Johor Street. It is 8 km long and 1.7 km at the widest point. One can reach it in a 15 minute boat-ride from the Changi Point jetty.
Pulau Ubin means the granite island in the Malayan language because of its granite resources, which were dug out of quarries until about 1970. The island is still untouched by the massive development and modernization of Singapore and has therefore maintained its quiet village character. As a natural park Pulau Ubin is a popular destination, explorable by bicycle from one of many bicycle-rental places.
