One of three Mosques constructed by the Chulias (q.v. Jamae and Al-Abrar). It was built from 1828 to 1830 and served in the beginning not merely as a place of prayer, but also as a cultural and religious center of the Chulia community. Although the building was declared to be a national monument in 1974, not much was done to stop the deterioration, which becomes apparent on this photo taken in 2005.
