Mushroom Garden. 2006
Public art project
The Learning Site artist collective actualizes projects and publications promoting the gathering and exchange of knowledge from different fields. In the context of the Singapore Biennale, they began in March 2006, an ongoing exchange with local experts: with Suraya Saidon, director of the PCF Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng kindergarten of Block 79 Indus Road (a facility of the Community Foundation of the governmental party PAP) and with Dr. Atomic Leow of the Biotechnology Department at Temasek Polytechnic.
Already in 2005 Suraya Saidon had initiated a mini vegetable farm for her kindergarten. Learning Site established together with her and the kids a mushroom farm in a room of Block 79, for which a special cardboard construction was developed. By taking care of the mushrooms the children learn about their characteristics and uses.
