Underground cistern. This facility, preserved up to the present day, was built in the 6th century by order of Emperor Justinian as a reservoir for the Great Palace of the Byzantine Empire. It is ca. 140 m long and 70 m wide. The vault is supported by 336 columns, 8 m tall. |
