Calle 23 (La Rampa), entre M y N
(between the streets M and N)
City Map, map
detail: Vedado
The pavilion for fairs, exhibitions and larger events of every kind
is located in the Vedado district on the part of 23rd Street which is
called "La Rampa" because it leads up from coastal street
Malecón to the upper parts of the city like a ramp.
Memorable exhibitions have already taken place in the building complex,
whose sides are open for long stretches - for example the presentation
of the Parisian May Salon in the year 1967. The idea for this came from
Wifredo Lam who lived in Paris then. In this way the works of numerous
stars of modern art were shown in the Pabellón Cuba: Picasso,
Magritte, Lam, Vasarely, Asger Jorn, Miró, Hundertwasser etc.
Right next to this, on the open square of the pavilion, the straw-filled
sheds of a cattle show stood next to sculptures. As with art, nameplates
hung from them on which name and type were noted.
