On our tour you will find works by 33 participants
in the central show of the 8th Havana Biennial, as well as a selection
of special and parallel exhibitions and projects.
We also would have liked to have seen the works created as
part of the biennial by artists from various countries in the urban
setting of the Alamar quarter (on the eastern end of Havana). However,
the trip out there for the opening on 2 November was canceled at short
notice, supposedly because the artists were not yet finished.
We later learned that Cuban officials did indeed attend the
planned opening in Alamar. Apparently, those responsible decided at
the last minute that foreigners should be kept away from Cuba’s
largest housing project (with over 160,000 residents) which, in its
dreariness, is anything but a model example of Socialist quality of
life.
