Diana de Solares - Statement

Written down by Pat Binder and Gerhard Haupt, based on an interview with the artist.

In this project I use photos, forgotten and tucked away in drawers, of an unfamiliar family which I have gradually gotten to know through get-togethers and interviews spanning a period of many weeks. This is how I have collected the information and the required photos to be able to put together the project.

The work is made up of two elements: one is the video, a kind of "slide show" of the photographs, and the other is a journal of my personal impressions, my recordings of the process, how the relationship to this family has developed, whom I sought first as an "element" for the realization of this work, and to whom I am connected at the end in some way because I have become their friend.

As a result of this process, the family has experienced a transformation in their view of their own interpersonal and family relationships, and my understanding of what it means to make art and what art is on the whole has changed.
