HATUEY @ yahoo.com Hatuey (Taíno chief) had fled to Cuba with ca. 400 people ahead of the Spanish conquerors of Hispaniola (today the Dominican Republic). Once there, he continued to fight the Spanish who burned him alive in 1512. Hatuey is considered to be Cuba's first national hero.
