National Museum of Art

Opened in 1977 in the building of the Expo Museum of Fine Arts (built for the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka). Main purpose of the museum is to show how Japanese art has developed in relation to art in the rest of the world: influence of Asian art since the ancient times, relationship to Western art from 16th through the early 20th century, and worldwide exchange in contemporary art.
