Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art & Archaeology

Opened in 1993 in the Peking University complex (near the Westgate). Archaeological findings from China (from 280,000 years ago until the 17th century), including bronze, jade and bone objects as well as pottery. Temporary and special exhibitions. [en]

Beijing Art Museum

Established in 1985 in Wanshou Temple, with the aim of preserving, studying and exhibiting the Chinese cultural heritage. Calligraphy, painting, imperial weavings and embroideries, porcelain, furniture, ancient coins and overseas art objects dating from the Neolithic Age up to modern times. Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA)

The China Millennium Monument

Iberia Center for Contemporary Art

Established in China by the International Art & Culture Foundation (IAC) of Spain. Promotes Chinese art and culture, and introduces international artists and art projects. Exhibitions, research, education and collection. [en, es, zh]

Museum of China Cultural Arts (MoCCA)

National Art Museum of China

Palace Museum

Imperial palace (Gugong) of the Ming and Quing dynasties, built 1406-1421 on behalf of the 3rd Ming emperor, Yongle. Was considered the center of the Chinese empire and of the world. The name "Purple Forbidden City" (Zijincheng) does not refer to the color of the buildings (red tones), but rather to the "secret purple area" in heaven - according to ancient Chinese thought, the position of the North Star in the center of the firmament. The 720,000 sqm complex with ca. 8,900 rooms and more than 1 million objects spanning 5,000 years is considered to be the largest museum in the world. [en, zh]

Ullens Center for the Arts
